Goddess Mahalakshmi - The Aditi of vedas

           || Prayers||

I prostrate before my Mother, The Daughter of King Janaka, the One who is the Bringer of delight to the Supreme Lord of the universe, Lord Rama, The one who Slayed The mighty demons Sahastravan and Shatananda Ravana, The one whose Lotus feet is worshipped by the three worlds, the one upon whom the Lord of the universe mediates, the Divine mother From whose womb countless existences originate, The one who protects the creation and Blesses all with prosperity, I pray to my dear mother to bless me always.

Mahalakshmi - The Great Goddess of the vedas

In various posts on this blog, I have showed how Nārāyana alone is the Supreme being of the Vedas, who is known by the Name of Kāla, Viswakarma, Vishnu, Indra, agni etc in the Vedas. Now this Post is meant to Prove the fact that The Supreme Goddess, the Shakti who has been declared in the Vedas, is None other than the Lord's own half I.e Goddess Mahalakshmi.

In the words of Shankaracharya

Firstly, Let us see what Sri Adi Shankaracharya said about Goddess Srī/Bhu (Mahalakshmi) in his vishnu sahasrnam bhasya.

He confirms the fact (by quoting the Svetasvatara Upanishad) that Goddess Mahalakshmi is the 'parāsaktī', who is sung throughout the Vedas. Next is this extract, where he confirms how Bhu devi (consort of God Vishnu) is the Aditi of Vedas :

Sri Adi Shankaracharya here by confirms that Aditi of Vedas is none other than the consort of God Vishnu.

Citations from the Vedas

The Taittirīya Brahmana 3.1.2 Clearly mentions that Bhu Devī is the consort of God Nārāyana. Let us see some more of them :

"And because he now offers after coming out (ud-â-i) from the expiatory bath, therefore this (concluding oblation) is called Udayanîya 3. For this indeed is one and the same oblation: to Aditi belongs the opening, to Aditi the concluding (oblation); for Aditi is this earth" (sathpath brahmana 2.4.5.1)

"On the navel of the earth I place thee!' And further, 'In the lap of Aditi (the boundless or inviolable earth)!' for when people guard anything very carefully, they commonly say that 'they, as it were, carried it in their lap." (Sathpath Brahmana 1.1.2.23)

"the horse is connected with Prajapati; (verily it serves) to connect it with its place of birth. 'May Aditi thee', he says; Aditi is this earth; verily with Aditi in Aditi he digs, to avoid injury to it, for one hurts not oneself." (Taittiriya samhita 5.1.7)

"O goddess Aditi, You are the Earth in depth. Sky in breadth, atmosphere in greatness. In your lap, I place Agni, the all-consumer for the consumption of oblations. The spotted bull has come and sat before the mother in the east.Advancing to his Father heaven Thirty places he rules; Speech relies upon wings to fly; bear it with the days." (Bhu suktam, Taittiriya Brahmana)

"The firm among the quarters, lady of visnu, the mild, Ruling over this strength, the desirable, Brhaspati, Matarisvan, Vayu, The winds blowing together be gracious to us. Prop of the sky, supporter of the earth, Ruling this world, lady of Visnu, All-extending, seeking food, with prosperity, May Aditi be auspicious to us in her life." (Nila Suktam, Taittirya samhita, Yajur veda)

The Bhu suktam and Nila suktam call them consorts of Vishnu (Vishnu/Indra) and Also addresses them as "aditi". Now these citations along with words of Sri Adi shankaracharya should Make it crystal clear, that Aditi of vedas is none other than Goddess Mahalakshmi.

gandhadvārāṁ durādharṣāṁ nityapuṣṭāṁ karīṣiṇīm . īśvarīɱ sarvabhūtānāṁ tāmihopahvaye śriyam

"I invoke in this act of worship Sri, the support of all, who is known through smell, who is unassailable, perpetually prosperous, rich in cowdung and the mistress of all created beings."
(Taittiriya Aranyaka, 1.47)

aditirdyauraditirantarikṣamaditirmātā sapitā sa putraḥ | viśve devā aditiḥ pañca janā aditirjātamaditirjanitvam || (Rig Ved 1.89.10)

"Aditi is the heaven, Aditi is mid-air, Aditi is the Mother and the Sire and Son.
Aditi is all Gods, Aditi five-classed men, Aditi all that hath been born and shall be born."

Mahalakshmi Namostute!!!
